(40 hours per week Monday to Friday)

Must be available to work weekends/Bank Holidays as and when required

Location:  Craigmore Road, Garvagh

We are looking to hire a full time Landfill Technician, at our depot in Garvagh.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Operating heavy plant equipment such as Digger, Dozers, Bomag Compactor, Excavators, Dump trucks and other related equipment necessary to facilitate the day-to-day operations at the landfill site.
  • Perform duties to dispose of non -combustible/non- recyclable waste materials at the landfill site.
  • Spread and compact layers of waste
  • Observe waste to identify hazardous material or substances excluded from deposit at the landfill site and report to the Landfill manager.
  • Perform routine checks on machines to ensure machines are in proper working order and report immediately any issues to Landfill Manager.
  • Where applicable, provide minimal maintenance of various landfill equipment/machines.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and company obligations, & Health & Safety standards are maintained at all times to a high standard.
  • Paperwork – register, log and report on waste received at landfill on all relevant IT software as applicable.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Ensure all Machines on site comply with the relevant H&S standards and company standard operating procedures.
  • Always apply Manual Handling techniques.
  • Any other reasonable duties as delegated by the Landfill Manager.

 Essential Criteria

  • Must have a valid licence/certificate and have at least 2 years’ experience of operating one of the following machines: Digger, Dozers, Bomag Compactor, Excavators, Dump truck
  • Confident operating machinery on steep flanks
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication skills – both written and verbal
  • IT Skills- a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Ability to work well on own initiative
  • Be self-motivated
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Flexible approach to work hours
  • Willing to work in all weather conditions
  • Willing to work under pressure in a busy environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience operating machines within a landfill site
  • Experience using GPS
