Case Study: City Hotel, Derry
Sector: Hospitality
Client
Since: 5 years
Located in the heart of Derry~Londonderry, the City Hotel is a shining example of what can be achieved when sustainability becomes part of daily operations. For over five years, RiverRidge has worked closely with the team to help reduce waste, increase recycling, and ultimately create a more sustainable business model.
The City Hotel produces a large volume of waste due to the nature of the business. With sustainability taking a front seat in their daily operations, they needed a partnership that could manage their waste effectively and implement new systems to promote a more sustainable way of working.
RiverRidge provides tailored waste management solutions for all of the hotel’s key waste streams—glass, cardboard, plastic, general waste, and food waste. Glass is recycled, food waste is turned into garden compost, and plastics and cardboard are not only diverted from landfill but also generate rebates through our recycling system.
As members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the City Hotel team is committed to reducing their environmental impact. Their partnership with RiverRidge offered a practical and effective route away from landfill—through waste separation, signage support, and ongoing staff training.
By separating our waste with different bins in our work areas, it allowed us to monitor the different types of waste we produced. RiverRidge offered us clear signage for our bins and offer training if needed.
With compact bins and regular collections, the hotel can neatly store waste without expanding storage areas. And thanks to our rebate system, they’ve not only cut waste, they’ve cut costs too.
Working with RiverRidge has helped the City Hotel achieve a host of industry accolades, including:
Together we have been able to reduce the cost of our waste and protect our planet at the same time.
RiverRidge is proud to support the City Hotel on its sustainability journey. Through collaboration, transparency, and innovation, we continue to help them meet—and exceed—their environmental goals.
