Here at RiverRidge, we're proud to celebrate some of the fantastic ladies we have working as part of our team this International Women's Day! First up is our customer service agent, Adele Jameson.
What is your job role at RiverRidge?
I’m a Customer Service Agent (CSA) within the Customer Care Department.
How long have you held this position?
Approximately four months – I started with the company at the end of October 2022.
What does a normal day entail?
My day usually begins by logging on to the phones and setting my laptop up. I look through the cases for driver feedback and react accordingly. The majority of the day is spent responding to email queries from customers as we receive them, as well as live chats and phone calls when necessary. We work closely with the transport team to ensure any queries are resolved in the quickest possible timeframe.
The waste sector may be perceived as a male orientated sector. Have you experienced any adversity when you tell people the sector that you work in? If so, how do you overcome this?
I haven’t experienced any adversity when describing the sector I work in. Sometimes people are just surprised due to the change I made by moving away from a long retail background into the waste management sector.
How has RiverRidge helped you progress in your role?
Since starting in this role, RiverRidge has been very supportive with my training and personal development. I learn best by carrying out tasks first-hand and asking for help when necessary. I feel that within my team I have always had the support needed and everyone is always willing to help and explain new scenarios as and when they come up.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Embrace Equity.’ In your experience, how has the company ensured that you are treated fairly and impartially in your role?
I feel that I have been treated in the same way as all my colleagues since working here. There have been no differences in workload or duties between myself and my male counterparts, and everyone has welcomed me into the team with open arms, including those that I don’t work directly with.
What advice would you give to anyone who is considering taking up a role that may be seen as ‘typically male’ orientated?
Don’t be intimidated, go for it! Everyone was a new start once and are more than willing to help. Once you get started you will realise just how equal everyone is!
