Meet the Team – Eve McLoughlin

At RiverRidge, we’re proud to offer placement opportunities to students to develop their knowledge in a certain area, which will benefit them in their studies and future career.

One of our current placement students is our Health and Safety Assistant, Eve McLoughlin, who is studying Environmental Health at Ulster University.

Eve began her placement with us in June 2022 and has become a very valuable member of our team in that time. Find out more about Eve’s experience of RiverRidge below.

What are you studying and where?

I’m studying Environmental Health at Ulster University.

What is your role during your placement year at RiverRidge?

Health and Safety Assistant.

When did you begin your placement with RiverRidge?

I started my placement with the company in June 2022.

What does a normal day entail?

No two days are the same at RiverRidge due to the fast-paced nature of the business. Each day varies but usually starts with checking our EHS software to see if there is anything that has been reported that requires immediate attention. I usually spend a day a week auditing on site with other members of the health and safety team. Other duties usually involve training development, updating procedures and risk assessment review.

What encouraged you to undertake your placement with RiverRidge?

I believed the opportunity to work within the waste industry would be extremely beneficial and would help me gain the best experience during my placement year.

What have you learnt about waste management during your time with RiverRidge?

Prior to my placement I assumed that all general waste went to landfill however that is not the case. I have learnt so much about the waste management process and where the waste goes.

How has RiverRidge helped you progress in your role?

My manager has provided me with great support as he has a wealth of health and safety knowledge. The wider team at RiverRidge has been very supportive and provided me with assistance where necessary.

How will your placement with RiverRidge benefit you in your future career?

I believe that I have been given a great start to my career. I have gained lots of hands-on experience and had the opportunity to work within several aspects of health and safety which will benefit me in the future.

What advice would you give to anyone who is considering undertaking a placement opportunity or career with RiverRidge?

Go for it! RiverRidge is a very exciting company to work for with multiple development opportunities.
