RiverRidge Provides Waste Management Services at Balmoral Show

RiverRidge was delighted to once again be back at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, providing the waste management services for this year’s Balmoral Show, as it made its long awaited return following the cancellation of last year’s event due to the global pandemic.

For the fifth consecutive year, we provided a range of services for the annual event that saw around two thirds of the usual turnout, however that was in line with the organisers’ projections given the current circumstances.

For RiverRidge, the Balmoral show is one of the key events in our calendar, and we provided a total of 250 bins, which consisted of both general waste and food bins that were located throughout the site, as well as the Northern Ireland Food Pavilion.

Four bin lorries, nine skips and seven RORO (roll on, roll off) lorries were also provided – assisting exhibitors and attendees alike with convenient ways to dispose of their rubbish.

Over the six days that our team was on site, we racked up a total of 388 man hours, and lifted a total of 28.24T of waste (the equivalent of four male African elephants!), which was fully processed (pre-treated) and recovered from landfill. RiverRidge aims to move its waste treatment capabilities up the waste management hierarchy.

100% of the food waste that we collected went to either Anaerobic Digestion (AD) or for composting.

The remaining waste was taken to our MRF facility in Mallusk, where it was processed to extract any recycling material, with the remainder going for treatment to produce RDF fuel. These processes ensure that the Balmoral Show has a 100% diversion from landfill figure.

As Balmoral Show’s waste partner, it was a privilege to play an instrumental part in ensuring that all waste was either recycled or treated and energy recovered.
