RiverRidge Returns as Waste Management Provider for 2022 Balmoral Show

Following the much-welcomed and full scale return of this year’s Balmoral Show at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, Lisburn, RiverRidge was delighted to provide a full suite of waste management services for the show for the sixth consecutive year.

Running from 11th to 14th May, The Balmoral Show is always one of the key events in RiverRidge’s calendar and this year, it was back to its best welcoming over 100,000 visitors during the three-day event.

Over the two weeks we were on site, we collected a total of 78.06 Tonnes of waste, made up of nine skips, seven large RORO (roll on, roll off) lorries, four bin lorries and two compactors. We assisted both exhibitors and attendees alike with convenient ways to dispose of their rubbish and are proud to announce that all waste was diverted from landfill.

In its bid to become more sustainable, the Balmoral Show organisers introduced a range of sustainability measures including water drinking stations that were located at various locations throughout the showground, which provided free, unfiltered drinking water. Visitors could choose between bringing their own refillable water bottles or purchasing one of the Balmoral Show Water Bottles upon arrival. These initiatives supported the Show’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by cutting down on the use of single use plastics in order to lessen the harmful impact on the environment.

Other waste management initiatives in place this year included the introduction of segregated bins within the Northern Ireland Food Pavilion, which highlighted where the general, food and mixed recycling waste should go. The segregated bins within the food courts were a roaring success, due to the amazing efforts of both our dedicated workforce and the general public in attendance.

Operations Director at Balmoral Show, Rhonda Geary, commented “I would like to thank all at RiverRidge for all their hard work prior to and during the Show. The cleaning and waste side of the Show ran very well with no more incidents than in previous years.

“By all accounts it was a very successful Show with our attendance back up to over 100,000. We had the busiest Saturday so far! It will take a few weeks for the dust to settle and then we will be straight in to organising the 2023 Show!”

As Balmoral Show’s waste partner, it was a privilege to play an integral part in rethinking our resources, and ensuring that all waste was diverted from landfill.
