Leading waste management company, RiverRidge, recently attended the Prince’s Trust, ‘Get Hired’ event, sponsored by KMPG, an occasion organised to help young people enter employment more easily. As a result of the event RiverRidge has offered four young people the opportunity to complete work placements with the waste management company.
The ‘Get Hired’ event brings together local businesses with young people to support them into employment. It provides employers from across Northern Ireland the chance to meet passionate, driven and motivated young people who have been helped by Prince’s Trust programmes and are ready for work.
Stephen Thompson, Group Transport Manager of RiverRidge, commented, “As a company we were extremely proud to be a part of the Prince’s Trust, ‘Get Hired’ event. RiverRidge strives to reach out and help our communities in many ways and this event was a great opportunity to support the development of the young people in our local area.”
After spending the morning with KMPG and learning interview tips, the young people met with potential employers, who made a business pitch to the twenty plus 16 – 25 year olds on why they should consider working for them before employers interviewed interested candidates.
Jonathan Hunter, HR Manager of RiverRidge commented, “Currently RiverRidge services over 3,500 customers in the private and public sector, including government bodies. It is therefore imperative for RiverRidge to have a strong and hard-working team to allow us to continue providing our award winning waste transfer service to customers across 95% of Northern Ireland’s postcodes.
“As a result of attending the ‘Get Hired’ event, we will be offering four candidates work placements. RiverRidge provides an excellent workplace environment for ambitious individuals to learn new experiences which will help them progress and achieve their overall employment goals.
“We believe that every person should have the chance to succeed and as a company, we have the power to make an extraordinary impact on the lives of young people. By providing young people with an insight into our workplace, we are enabling them to learn new skills, discover new talents, new experiences and build working relationships. This is exactly why we will also be attending the ‘Get Hired’ event in the North West on Wednesday 26th July.”
Daniel McVicker, Outcomes Manager at The Prince’s Trust added; “Young people are facing extraordinary pressures in their daily lives and the single thing that can make the biggest difference is getting a job. Whatever type of support they need, we help them get to where they want to be. Last year alone, we worked with over 7,000 young people across Northern Ireland. Over 80% of those young people transitioned into jobs, education and training and our ‘Get Hired’ days are a really important part of that support.
“We’re grateful to RiverRidge for getting involved with the event. It’s a great way for our young people to develop their skills and confidence and we look forward to working with RiverRidge to help them find motivated young people and diversify their workforce.”
