RiverRidge Gold Sponsor of NI Waste Management Conference 2023

RiverRidge was proud to return as gold sponsor of this year’s NI Waste Management Conference 2023 which was held in the Titanic Conference Centre, Belfast on 25th May.

Facilitated by Recycle NI and the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management NI, the well-attended conference brought together key industry figures and companies that work in waste management and related sectors.

This year’s conference theme was ‘The Journey to Net Zero’ and as one of the main sponsors of the conference, RiverRidge’s CEO, Brett Ross, had the opportunity to present to the audience on ‘Harnessing the Power of Waste: The Promising Role of Biomethane in Resource Management’.

During his presentation, Brett discussed the potential for extracting biomethane from household residual waste and the important role it plays in decarbonising Northern Ireland’s gas network. He discussed how moving towards biological treatment helps Local Authorities insulate themselves from carbon taxation, but that policy framework changes are needed to support decarbonisation via biomethane.

Brett also outlined RiverRidge’s commitment to developing a holistic solution for Northern Ireland’s residual waste streams and how the company has undertaken an exciting £50m construction project to produce biomethane from household residual waste, with building work due to commence later this year.

Over 200 delegates attended this year’s conference, which returned for its second year, following the success of last year’s inaugural event. The conference focussed on Northern Ireland’s sustainability, the circular economy and all matters relating to how best to transition to a more efficient and environmentally friendly waste management sector.

The conference gave delegates the opportunity to be part of the platform of discussions on the most sustainable way forward on the climate change journey with key note speakers including Tracey Teague, EMFG Deputy Secretary, Dept of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs; Harriet Lamb, Chief Executive Officer, WRAP; Debbie Caldwell, Belfast Climate Commissioner; Dan Ashby, Environmental Producer, Presenter and Director; Conor Walsh, Secretary, Recycle NI and Debbie Nesbitt, Chairperson, CIWM NI.
